After studying Xhosa at high school, Kyle Hudson completed a BA in Xhosa and Drama at Rhodes University in 1991. She qualified as ateacher (Postgrad. Dip. in Education) in 1997 and completed a TEFL Certificate. Kyle has been working in the field of education and training for more than 11 years, locally and abroad. Her approach was most clearly developed in Japan, where she worked on designing new courses specifically aimed at practical speaking and listening skills
for adults learning English. Many of these techniques have been innovatively and effectively applied to teaching Xhosa. Kyle is the Founding Member of Xhosa Fundis and teaches on all the beginners courses.
Ntombiza Lingani is originally from the Eastern Cape. She is currently studying towards a BBA Degree at TsiBA and training part time as a Xhosa Fundis teacher. Ntombiza also helps with developing teaching materials and gives private lessons at our Language School. In her own words: "I feel priviledged to be part of Xhosa Fundis simply because our students generally arrive tired after a long days work and leave classes feeling invigorated. It's amazing how much the students enjoy the lessons with so much energy and drive to learn as much as they can about the language and culture that influences the behavior of Xhosa people."
Bulelwa Qumisa was born in the Transvaal. She grew up in Khayelitsha, Cape Town and then moved to Phillipi in 1993. She has 2 children. Bulelwa is an assistant teacher at Xhosa Fundis and also helps prepare class materials. In her own words: "I also really enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge of Xhosa Culture. I love meeting students and I learn a lot from them too. I really enjoy this work."
Zoliswa Khapha is an assistant teacher on Xhosa Fundis Beginners Courses. Zoliswa helps with lots else too, including moral support and sanity. In her own words: "I really enjoy helping students to remember words by using actions and expression when I lead the listen and repeat exercises. I also enjoy doing demonstrations of Xhosa conversations in class for students to practise listening. It's lots of fun - the mistakes as well as the learning! It's so great to hear students talking Xhosa when they arrived without any words!"
Mveleli is a very delightful addition to our team. He attends high school in Salt River. Mveleli helps with general office work, including bookkeeping (accountancy is his main interest at present). He has also assisted on a Beginners' course when the Xhosa assistant teacher was unable to attend.
Comments from Learners:
This is a brilliant course. It's really well thought out, fun and practical with lots of great ways to learn. I now have the courage to speak Xhosa and have had many wonderful moments connecting with Xhosa people.
